Noticed through the action site there is a few up for bidding, but i have lack of funds lol. Anyway, are these often pop up on eBay? Are they rare to see or get?

not hard to get at all. the original one from the 60s can go for big money in the p&h box... the newer versions are more or less the same thing. they sell for anywhere from 10 to 25 bucks ussually...a few years back the hobby shops sold them new for around 20 bucks. i have one in the box but its buried in the basem*nt somewhere.

I have yet to go to a train show that there hasn't been at least one of these, usually $10-$20. I decided after my 5th one to quit buying them when I saw them, even if the price was right...

i think the truck crane and the cable shovel are 2 of the most under rated kits out there....sure they lack fine details but as far as customizing goes the sky is the limit.

It's pretty sad when the only modeling tool you own is a box cutter.

What was offered with this model? A certain length boom? Wouldn't mind a truck crane version.

There are two Lionel P&H models - a crawler 1055 shovel and a 35 ton 555 truck crane. Not bad models - particulary considering the only other P&H friction model was the NCG 670 crawler crane/dragline.
Check with DHS - they may have some inventory. I know Buffalo Road used to have some.
What we really need is what you name says - a 70T Lima truck crane model!

I have the original versions in thebasem*nt-slightly modified with handles to operate. They made an 'orange' version that were sold about 20 yrs ago. I bought several for modifcation but never did-that was before the current crane offerrings. When they first came out-I was little-I said wow these are great! The orange versions about 10 bucks. I might have paid 7 bucks for some on sale. I believe Lionel recently offered them again on flat cars like the originals not sure of price. Train shows, shops should have them.

SDBOB your right, I forgot about the orange model, they were made for Lionel as flat car loads. In fact I just saw the orange one and several yellow truck cranes (P&H) along with the crawler shovel at the Spring Thaw Train Show in Allentown, Pa. a few weeks ago. The newer reproductions are cheep ( $10/$20 US) and abundant. If Chuck dosent have any try looking in a Model Railroader magazine or contact Walters (major model RR supplyer) on the www.

I'm pretty sure it is "O" scale which translates to 1:48

The truck crane came with a 3 piece folding boom...no working drums but the outriggers can slide out and there's removable pads. It also features rubber tires and the rims have nice detail...it has no glass in the windows...there's no interior detail in the crane but it does have sliding doors. The shovel has rubber tracks. And the boom features a working rack and pinion for the dipper....the bucket door opens and the crane house. Has sliding doors also. I'm my opinion these scale much closer to 1/64 . The tires on the crane are smaller than the first gear truck tires....also the shovel seems to be too small for 1/50. The shovel can be built into a pretty mean loading shovel in 1/87
